What should I do if I have a formerly stitched area on my chin that isn't healing as well as it should.?

I got four stitches taken out of my chin over a week ago. The stitches were difficult for the doctor on hand to take out and he essentially had to completely take off the scab in order to remove them cleanly (or so he said). As of now, the area on my chin looks less like a scar and is actually growing out a little bit. If I apply any pressure at all, a small amount of puss comes out followed by a little blood. I'm not overly worried by I want to know how I should proceed. Is there any chance they didn't remove all of the stitches and this area is infected? Any ideas?
